Anywho for the cheated part.
Nov 3rd was our last state championship in our band. We finished 3rd, and missed second by only a fraction of a point...but I just have to wonder why the reigning champ has had THE SAME SHOW for three years...maybe even four. That gives them 48 possible months to work and perfect a show...whereas we and several other bands only get about 3 and a half months....sure our band reuses sets and drills...but we don't play the same music in the shows every year...
I think we have lost sight of what a real marching band is supposed to be. MARCHING AND PLAYING. Not marching to the beat of thousands of dollars worth of synthesizers, keyboards, and huge speakers....or standing still, kneeling, or marking time while your playing...no not at all. Marching band is pure and simple horns, pit, and drumline...all marching and playing within the framework of time...all in perfect sychronization and harmony
I'm proud to be in a band with a director and super dedicated staff that cherishes what a real marching band should be, and they mold us into that kind of band....
I watched some college bands a few days back and I've noticed a lot of bands are starting to turn to fancy synthesizer stuff..and their hornline only plays a fraction of the show....America has lost it's vision of a true marching band...it's just an old fad thats gone out of style...
The reigning champ also stole one of our drumlines' cadences...written by one of our very own drumline members...can you say copyright infringement? I believe so...Our cadence was in a tangible form...you could hear it!
Maybe I'm just overreacting....I dunno, I cant sleep over this...it lingers in my mind all day long...sometimes just thinking about it sends me into uncontrolled fits of rage and hate....But one of my good friend says this to me a lot....
"We were 3rd in state, but 1st in our hearts because it's the placing of our hearts that comes before the placing of our band..."
...and it really helps
